The month of Panguni, the final month in tamil calendar, heralds the onset of spring with the vernal equinox on March 20th. Sri Rama Navami and Panguni Uthiram are the major religious festivals this month.

Sri Rama Navami - Thursday April 2nd 2020

Bhagwan Rama exemplified the perfect person - maryada purushottam. He was the embodiment of compassion, gentleness, kindness, righteousness and integrity. The celebration of Rama Navami is to propagate the message that every human being should strive to cultivate the qualities of Lord Rama in them.

Panguni Uthiram - Tuesday April 7th 2020

Panguni Uthiram is celebrated with grandeur in temples, especially in Lord Subramanya temples. The puranas ascribe this as the day of the celestial weddings. Notably, the Puranas talk about the marriages of Shiva and Parvati, Murugan and Devayani, Andal and Ranganatha, and Rama and Sita took place on this holy day. The day is intended to underline the glory of Gruhasta Dharma. Panguni Uthiram is also considered to be the incarnation day of Lord Ayyappan and Goddess Mahalakshmi.

SIS Tamil New Year event

We regret, given current conditions related to Covid19, to call off the Tamil New Year event, scheduled for 18th April. We feel bad about it as we know that many of you have already put in lot of time and effort preparing for it. We thank you and sincerely hope there will be a window of opportunity to showcase them sooner than later.
Given the exceptional conditions, we will fully refund admission fees already paid.

In these trying times, following the advice of Kanchi Acharya and other religious leaders, may we all pray that the pandemic passes off with minimal hardship to us in UK, India or elsewhere and recite in particular, Subrahmanya Bhujangam, Narayaneeyam, Vaidyanatha Ashtakam, and indeed, any stotra.

SIS Satsang – Saturday, 4th April 2020

The Satsang will include reciting

• Vishnu Sahasranaman
• Mahalakshmi Ashtakam and Lalitha Sahasranaman
• Hanuman Chalisa
• Few Bhajans and a short spiritual talk followed by Aarathi and Prasadam

In case Coronavirus virus situation does not improve, the April Satsang may be organised through Skype, as indeed we plan doing the March Satsang.
