Ingredients:

  • Peel from one medium size orange, cut into small pieces (fingernail size)
  • 3 or 4 green chillies
  • 1/2 an inch ginger piece
  • 1 1/2 table spoon of white seasame seed
  • 1/4 cup of jaggery (more or less as you like)
  • 1 table spoon of kadalai paruppu
  • 2 red chilly ( Vara milaghai)
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard seed
  • Tamarind water (made from lime-sized lump) you can use tamarind paste (1.5 teaspoon)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon of sambar powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • Salt

Preparation

  1. Grind green chilly, ginger& seasame seed into a paste ( do not add any water)
  2. Heat seasame oil, when oil is hot add mustard seed, when spluttering is over add kadalai paruppu
  3. Once paruppu is browned add the ground paste and fry for 2 to 3 minutes and add the orange peel pieces & fry for further couple of minutes.
  4. Add tamarind water ,salt, turmeric powder & sambar powder
  5. Let it boil for 10 minutes until the raw smell of tamarind goes off
  6. Add vellam and boil to a thick consistency & enjoy!!!!

Will go with uppuma , pongal, kichidi etc.,
